IFC and Shudder released the slasher film in May. In a violent nature. Written and directed by Chris Nash, the film’s big appeal is that rather than following a group of young people trying to escape a violent death, it’s told from the perspective of Johnny, a mute, newly resurrected killer. There are plenty of people who loved the film and Johnny’s brutal murder scenes, so if you’re one of them, we’ve got good news for you: there’s another Johnny violent movie on the way.
Johnny himself (played by Ry Barrett in the film) stopped by the San Diego Comic-Con for horror movies. After giving attendees a good scare, he revealed that a sequel to the film is already in the works. Nash was confirmed to be returning as a writer, but not as a director. Scott Schuman, head of AMC Networks’ film group, said in a statement that the first Violent nature “It proves that there is a continuing demand for a fresh perspective on the horror film world, and we knew right away that this unique take on a horror film would captivate fans.”
In the same statement, IFC Films In a violent nature It grossed $4.5 million, making it the highest-grossing movie of the franchise’s history. The film received mostly positive reviews, so it would make sense for it to be expanded into a bigger franchise. All Shuman can say about the sequel is that Johnny (presumably played again by Barrett) will be “bigger, badder and his kills will be more impressive.” That’s sure to get fans excited, considering how spectacular the kills were in the first film.

According to producer Peter Kuprowski, a sequel has always been planned. The first film was originally conceived as a meta-sequel to a non-existent slasher franchise, so this really just brings everything full circle. “We’re incredibly grateful to our incredible partners that we now have the opportunity to follow Johnny’s restless journey,” Kuprowski said. “We’re thrilled to return in a new chapter and to cast Johnny as a conduit for further experimentation in the genre.”
If you couldn’t see In a violent nature In theaters, IFC revealed that it will be screening on Shudder on September 13th, so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to see who Johnny will kill next.
