When it comes to spending over $1,000 on Apple’s latest iPad, the first question most people have is, “Will it actually be worth the price?” I had the same question when I bought my first iPad, back when tablets were still brand new.
I’ll admit that when I first got my iPad, there was an argument to be made that the answer to this question was much closer to “no” than it is now. With the launch of the 13-inch iPad Pro, the ways you can use an iPad are now so diverse that they’re well worth the money. So what can you actually use an iPad for? The answer is multiple.

Using iPad for work
The iPad Pro delivers on its promise
It’s no wonder the iPad Pro is being touted as a tablet that will help people get their work done more efficiently – after all, it was released as Apple’s answer to the Microsoft Surface Tablet – and I’m happy to report that, coupled with the Apple Pencil, the device does exactly that.
Ever since I got my first iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, I’ve been using my tablet as a portable file cabinet. I use the Notes app to take notes and store them in files, but I honestly can’t remember the last time I used a notepad and a regular old pen. This way I can take all my notes with me when I go to a meeting and not have to remember where I put that little sticky note with important information on it.
No need to keep track of where you put those little sticky notes with important information.
Aside from using the iPad Pro as a note-taking tool, there are some great apps (I often use Trello) that help me focus on the things I need to do each day. I also have a focus app that breaks down tasks into manageable periods and breaks, and a Slack app to keep in touch with my colleagues. Having all of this on one device makes it a bit more convenient than just using a laptop, especially since the new M4 iPad Pro is lighter than previous models.

Watch movies and TV shows using your iPad
There is a mini TV on the desk.
Peacock/Pocket Lint
As a writer, I spend a ton of time writing a variety of articles, and one of the ways I make sitting at a desk for hours on end feel less agonizing is to use my iPad as a second screen to watch movies and TV shows while I work.
Some may find it distracting, but I put on my AirPods Max headphones, turn on Netflix, Peacock, or Hulu, and live my own little world while I work. With the upgraded screen that comes with the 13-inch iPad, it’s like having a portable 4K TV. But it’s not just for work. When the day’s work is done, you can continue watching movies on the couch or in bed.

Reading using iPad
Lightweight model for even more fun
Once you’ve had your fill of movies and TV shows, the iPad also makes a very capable e-reader. This is the only area in which the 13-inch tablet isn’t necessarily the most enjoyable, but it’s significantly lighter than previous models, which certainly makes it easier to use as an e-reader.
Comics that I read on the Kindle app (although I miss the standalone Comixology app) look great in portrait mode, regular books look great too, and the larger screen is easier on my aging eyes.

Play games using your iPad
Bigger and better games are always coming
There was a time when Cut the Rope and Veggie Ninja were the top iPad games, and while mobile games like these are still plenty fun, gaming on the iPad is a lot more complicated than it used to be.
With AAA games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage coming to tablets every day, and games like Diablo Immortal that look like console titles but are actually exclusive to mobile users, there are plenty of different options for anyone looking to spend hours or even just a few minutes gaming.
All in all, now is a great time to buy an iPad, and Apple seems to understand that the hefty price tag is well worth it: the iPad is truly a multi-purpose device that’s great for between work and when you’re just getting away from it all.
