Irish rap group revives native language in ‘Kneecap’ trailer

Belfast hip-hop group Kneecap will be bringing the Irish language to the big screen in the film of the same name, with Mo Chara, Mogra Bop and DJ Provay co-starring alongside Michael Fassbender.

A mostly truthful account of the band’s origins, it chronicles Kneecap’s tumultuous journey to making Irish-language music and the radical possibilities of speaking your native language. Switching between English and Irish, the trailer promises raucous shenanigans, clashes with police, and humorous disruptions to the status quo. It even includes lyrical Easter eggs for true Kneecap fans.

The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Rich Peppiatt and won the NEXT Award at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
