You know Deadpool and Wolverine It’s a big deal having Kevin Feige talking about it, as up until now, as Marvel Studios president, Feige has spoken to the press about nearly every Marvel project. Avengers: Endgame But it’s been significantly toned down, and that Feige is back for this big release hints just a little bit at what’s at stake for him and Marvel as a whole.
In a chat with io9, Feige spoke about the impact: Deadpool and Wolverine How will it affect the MCU and how will it be incorporated? Loganas well as plenty of teasers for future projects, including Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man movie. Avengers 5 and 6and the next live-action X-Men project. But Feige is also a huge toy collector, so we took a chance and asked him what he thought about being recently immortalized in LEGO. His answer didn’t disappoint. Check out our full conversation with Kevin Feige below.
Germain Lussier, io9: In 2017, Disney bought Fox. In 2018, Deadpool 2 What do you think when you watch that movie? Do you think, “There’s no way this guy could work,” or do you think, “How can I work this guy?”
Kevin Feige: I was thinking the same thing I was thinking about the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, that they’d never be available. Yeah. Because, like you said, that was before the sales, right?
io9: The sale was in 2017, so it wasn’t finalized until a little later, but I was wondering if maybe you started thinking about it around that time.
Feige: No, I don’t think so. I think we were in the process of ending it. Infinity War and EndgameSo maybe I knew that someday those characters might come to us, but until you actually have it, you don’t think it’s real. So I remember just watching the movie and enjoying it, but not really thinking about anything else. Infinity War and Endgame [laughs].
io9: Yeah, it’s pretty big. I won’t give away any spoilers, but in the first 40 minutes of the movie, Logan Very early on. So did what happens in the film always come true exactly the way it did, or were there other versions that incorporated it?
Feige: How to incorporate Logan itself?
io9: Yes. Logan.
Feige: There have been many versions of this movie, but as a lot of people have been talking about recently, we didn’t want to take anything back from it. LoganI didn’t want to erase it. I didn’t want to tarnish that great work in any way. So what you see in the film has always been kind of an idea of how to get past that.
io9: So, on a scale of 1 to 10, how much of an impact does this have on the MCU as a whole? Endgame It’s 10. Infinity War If it’s 9, how many points would you give it? Deadpool and Wolverine why?
Feige: Infinity War Is it 9?
io9: Yeah, it’s big, but it’ll come back.
Feige: Okay. I was going to say 10. Infinity War If it’s 9, I don’t know. Is it 8?
io9: Okay. We’re going to learn a lot more about the bigger picture over the next few days as Comic-Con approaches, but how much do you think the plans have changed since you announced it for 2022? Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars?
Feige: I think it’s fair to say that things have changed, and I want to show you how they have.
io9: Okay, so this is a massive multiverse movie, and I was curious about other multiverse movies. SpidermanCan you tell us anything about your next plans? Spiderman?
Feige: Amy [Pascal] I’m working on it myself, and we have some writers who will be submitting manuscripts relatively soon.
io9: That’s great. Phase 4 was mostly focused on introducing new characters to the MCU. And what’s next? the avengers I have the opportunity to watch a lot of movies. No Would you like to see it again?
Feige: I rarely ever make absolute statements like that, you know? I mean, we’ll never see each other again. You have Tim Blake Nelson in a movie coming out next year, right? So I don’t make absolute statements like that. But the fact is, we’re going to tell a story. the avengers There’s not enough room in a movie for 100,000 characters, so you definitely have to make choices, but that doesn’t mean you’ll never see anybody again.
io9: And obviously, the biggest thing that’s happened since we last spoke is that you got your very own Lego minifigure. [holds up minifigure].
Feige: yes! [laughs]
io9: So I was just wondering, I know you’re a big toy collector, what was that like? Did you have any say in the accessories? How did that come about?
Feige: I don’t remember if I had a say. I guess I was pretty predictable as far as the outfit goes. But it was such an honor. And I thought it was so cool. I’m pretty sure it was in the Marvel Studios offices, and they had the whole Avengers Tower on display. And somewhere there was a little doll of me with a shawarma and a hot dog. So I said, ‘Do I eat enough to have both of those?’ Like, coffee, I love coffee. But why should I have a shawarma and a hot dog? I think that just seemed so greedy.
io9: Thankfully, we have coffee. This is the last one. I think this movie is going to be defining for the future of the X-Men. We’ll find out more about that over the next few weeks. But there are different teams and different tones in this comic. What’s your decision-making process for narrowing it down, like which teams to use and what tone to go for?
Feige: We talk a lot about Marvel being “rich,” right? And the X-Men have a lot of great characters. Deadpool and Wolverine It’s a movie. There are a lot of great X-Men characters in the Fox X-Men movies. And there are a lot of great X-Men characters that haven’t been made into movies. We always try to do that, just like we did with Sony when we made the deal with Spider-Man. There’ll probably be a mix of characters that you’ve seen before and characters that you haven’t seen before. X-Men ’97 It’s been really exciting for us to see people revisit that world and reconnect with that world, and I would say that the melodramatic elements of that world are one of the things that’s got us excited about finally diving into the MCU.
Deadpool and Wolverine It will be released in theaters on July 26th.
