The C4 supports Dolby Vision and other major HDR formats, giving you great color highlights when watching HDR-enabled content. I was especially impressed with its performance in modern streaming. Sand Dunes The film boasts excellent color grading and also looks great in dark content. game of thrones or Star Wars An episode that may be jarring to watch elsewhere.
Speaking of color, this TV is finally bright enough to rival LED displays from the likes of Samsung. It peaks at over 1,000 nits, which is enough to hurt your eyes in most cases. Don’t worry if you put it in a bright room; however, the panel can get a little distorted when viewed from the side. Another reviewer wrote that it has a slight greenish cast when viewed from the side, but it looks more like a blue-green cast to me. So, if you plan on having a lot of seating at the edges of a room, this TV probably isn’t for you.
You’ll want to upgrade your audio. Down-firing speakers don’t sound particularly great on any TV, and the C4 is no exception. But this TV can be synced with a soundbar (such as the LG S95TR pictured) to contribute to a wider soundstage. This is a good option for those who want to upgrade their entire theater by buying products from the same brand. But don’t forget to buy a soundbar or external speaker system for a TV like this, or you’ll miss out on the true theater-like experience this TV offers.
Great photos, ordinary money
Considering how good this TV looks whether in gaming, sports, or filmmaking mode, it’s surprising that it’s priced well under $2,000 — a TV that would have easily gone for tens of thousands of dollars just a few years ago, even if the technology used didn’t exist.
In the past, you had to compromise on color, brightness, and backlighting to get a TV that would let you enjoy your games and Spielberg movies, but not anymore. With the C4, you can connect your gaming PC and have it play just as perfectly as your 4K Blu-ray player or your favorite movies. Soon, the difference between gaming monitors and TVs will disappear completely.
For now, if you’re looking for a great viewing experience and are willing to spend over $1,000 on a TV (and remember, you can get just as good models for much less), you’ll hardly find a better-looking model than the LG C4, at any price. Given what’s happened so far, I expect I’ll feel the same way about next year’s C5.
