The beauty of The iPad’s greatest appeal is its versatility: you can use it as a tablet for entertainment, a drawing pad for sketching, or a laptop for doing a little work. But that means you also need the right accessories, and while Apple sells a number of first-party options, they’re pretty limited and, needless to say, very expensive.
Take Apple’s Smart Folio, for example. It’s great for watching TV and sketching, but you need a keyboard and mouse to use the tablet as a laptop. The Magic Keyboard case, on the other hand, can’t be detached from the keyboard and is top-heavy, making it unsuitable for non-work uses. The only ideal choice is Apple’s Magic Keyboard Folio. The top half protects the back and has a built-in kickstand. The bottom half is a detachable keyboard with trackpad. It’s my favorite iPad case Apple has ever made, but unfortunately it only works with the 10th generation iPad. It’s puzzling that Apple hasn’t expanded support to other iPads.
Thankfully, there’s a solution in the form of the Logitech Combo Touch. It’s nearly identical to Apple’s Magic Keyboard Folio, but Logitech has been making it for years. The latest version is designed specifically for the 13-inch iPad Pro, but other versions are available for the iPad and iPad Air. If you frequently switch between using your tablet for work during the day and watching TV at night, this is a must-have accessory for your iPad.
Adaptable to all applications
There’s not much to the Combo Touch; it’s made up of two parts. The first half is the actual case, made from soft-touch fabric and with a raised bumper around the display for extra protection. On the right side, there’s a slot to store and charge your Apple Pencil Pro (if you have a USB-C Pencil, you can simply stow it there). On the back, there’s a great kickstand that can be angled into a variety of positions. It’s also very sturdy, with no wobble when tapping on the display, or when you place it in bed to watch TV, or even on your lap.
The bottom half is the keyboard and mouse. It’s made from low-carbon aluminum, and it feels just as premium as the redesigned Magic Keyboard case (if you have an older iPad, the case has a fabric texture). Both parts connect via Apple’s Smart Connector, so you don’t have to worry about Bluetooth connectivity or need to charge the case. This mechanism also makes it quick and easy to attach and detach both parts.
The keys also have adjustable backlighting and built-in function keys that can be brightened or dimmed right from the keyboard. In addition to the basic keys like brightness, playback controls, and volume controls, there is also a Do Not Disturb key and a screenshot key. The scissor keys are comfortable for all-day typing, and this is someone’s opinion. very I’m picky about keyboards, and I use a mechanical keyboard at my desk, so I thought it would be hard to get used to the Combo Touch, but I’ve been very happy with it, and I’m using it to write this review.
The case also makes the overall experience of using iPadOS much more comfortable for work: You can set the display to a variety of angles, the keys are large and clicky enough to type for long periods without tiring, and the trackpad is responsive (even if it’s a bit too big).
