10 Burning Questions After the Finale of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power’
The Elves of Middle-earth are determined to ward off the threat of Sauron (Charlie Vickers) by any means necessary, including forging a ring. The trailer shows Galadriel (Morphys Clarke), High King Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker), and shipwright Círdan (Interview with the VampireIn Season 1, Ben Daniels attempts to put on three Elven rings. Elrond (Robert Aramayo) is not sold on this strategy, as he believes the rings corrupt their wielder. Galadriel insists that the rings are guiding her, not deceiving her. But she was the queen tricked by Sauron in Season 1, so this has to end badly, right?
Speaking of Sauron, what’s our Dark Lord up to? Donning his best elven wig to gain the trust of the blacksmith Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards). Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s legends will recognize the blonde Sauron as his beautiful self, “Anathar,” the so-called “Lord of Gifts,” or as Sauron says in the trailer, “Sharer of the Gifts.” Sauron’s disguise seems to work, as he and Celebrimbor are seen embarking on a new forging project together.
“Give me the nine,” Sauron commanded, speaking of the nine rings that would ultimately corrupt the kings of men and turn them into Nazgul. It looks like we may also see the seven rings of the dwarves this season, as the dwarf Durin III (Peter Mullan) already appears enchanted with his own ring.

The rest of the trailer is chock full of Tolkien’s most notable revelations: We get a glimpse of the ghostly tomb monster that terrorizes Elrond and Galadriel; the surprisingly brooding Tom Bombadil (Rory Kinnear) finally makes his screen debut, advising the Stranger (Daniel Wayman) (aka Gandalf) on his journey to Rune; and Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdoba) meets what appears to be the Enwife (all of whom are gone by the end of the film). Lord of the RingI mean, it’s a big talking tree!) Also on display are a massive battle between Elves and Orcs, the questionable use of the Palantir in Númenor, and a big old Balrog that’s probably bad news for Khazad-Dūm.
Basically, Middle-earth is Through it.
The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power Season 2 will premiere on Prime Video on August 29th.
