Amazon Lookout for Equipment, an AWS machine learning (ML) service designed for predictive maintenance of industrial equipment, will no longer be available to new customers on October 17, 2024. Existing customers will be able to use the service as usual (using both the AWS Management Console and APIs). AWS will continue to invest in improving the security, availability, and performance of Lookout for Equipment, but no new features are planned for the service.
In this post, we’ll explain how you can maintain access to Lookout for Equipment after it ends its availability to new customers, and what are your alternatives to Lookout for Equipment.
Maintain access to monitor equipment
If you used the services through Cloud Training or Cloud Inference during the 30 days prior to October 17, 2024 (September 17, 2024 to October 16, 2024), you will be considered an existing customer. To maintain access to the services after October 17, 2024, you must complete one of the following tasks from the account in which you plan to maintain access:
- Start a new project in the Lookout for Equipment console and successfully complete model training.
- In the Lookout for Equipment console, open an existing project, schedule inference for a specific model, and run at least one inference.
- Use Lookout for Device API Calls

When you’re done
If you have questions or need assistance, please contact your AWS Account Manager or Solutions Architect, or create a case through the AWS Console.
An alternative to finding your device
If you’re interested in alternatives to Lookout for Equipment, AWS has options for both buyers and builders.
For ready-to-use solutions, the AWS Partner Network offers solutions from multiple partners. You can find solutions on the AWS Solution Library Asset Maintenance and Reliability page. This approach provides a solution that addresses your use case without requiring predictive maintenance expertise, and leveraging AWS Partner expertise typically provides the fastest time to value.
If you want to build your own solution, AWS provides AI/ML tools and services that can help you develop AI-based predictive maintenance solutions. Amazon SageMaker provides a toolset that enables you to build, train, infer, and deploy ML models for your use case with fully managed infrastructure, tools, and workflows.
summary
After October 17, 2024, Lookout for Equipment will no longer be accessible to new customers, however AWS offers a powerful set of AI/ML services and solutions in the form of SageMaker tools for building customer models, as well as a range of solutions from partners through the AWS Partner Network. You should explore these options to determine which best suits your specific needs.
