The Traversing Hyrule trailer offers a narrated overview of the main locations and regions you can explore in Echoes of Wisdom. After the main area of the Central Plains, where Hyrule Castle is located, the trailer moves to the familiar Gerudo Desert. This desert region has appeared in numerous Zelda titles and will once again be home to Gerudo women, dangerous sandstorms, and mysterious ruins. Eldin Volcano is also a returning location; this treacherous mountain is home to dangerous lava flows that must be avoided if you want to visit the Gorons. Finally, the Faron Marshes act as the forest biome where the Deku reside.
All-new locations include the Jable Sea region, home to the game’s Zora tribe. Each location offers new side quests that Zelda can accept and complete, using her adventure journal and waypoints to fast travel between specific locations.
But Zelda doesn’t always have to explore on foot: once you learn how to craft carrot echoes, you’ll be able to ride your horse across Hyrule just like Link, allowing you to stomp on weaker enemies and leap over obstacles to reach new areas.
The two new abilities are Bind and Reverse Bond. Bind allows you to connect to any object (or enemy) and link your movements. If there’s a giant rock blocking your path, you can bind to it and move it across the hole, causing it to fall. Reverse Bond does the opposite: the object or enemy you connect to will move Zelda as you move. For example, you can connect to a bird to fly over obstacles that are normally inaccessible.
The final new mechanic shown off in the trailer is the Smoothie Shop. Run by the lovable Business Scrub, the shop lets you mix up different ingredients you’ve collected across Hyrule to create a variety of buff-granting smoothies. Plus, there will be a range of outfits that provide different stat boosts, such as Zora’s flippers, which improve swimming speed.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on September 26th, but there’s undoubtedly still a lot to learn about the game before then.
