The unscientific Colombian scorpion doesn’t need to inject venom all the time, it can shoot venom from its stinger and hit things up to 35 centimeters away. This tactic is thought to be a means of protection from would-be predators.
Léo Laboulieu, who made the discovery while a student at Harvard University, said it’s unclear what effect the poison has on animals when it enters their eyes, mouths and noses.
