Preparations are currently underway for New Scientist Live, an annual festival of science and ideas. New Scientist Live takes place in London in just one week.
The show opens on Saturday, October 12th, with two days packed with talks, hands-on activities and demonstrations, with something for everyone of all ages and interests. Explore the exhibition space. There, some of the most popular interactive exhibits return this year, including a futuristic hospital where you can try out cutting-edge medical surgical robots and virtual reality, as well as adrenaline-filled virtual reality. Ride a roller coaster. There are also completely new experiences with sea beasts, dinosaurs, and more.
This year we have some great speakers including Alice Roberts, Turi King, Robin Dunbar and our columnist David Robson. Hear stories about everything from forensics and supermassive black holes to the secrets of gravity and how to eat for better brain health across four major stages: Mind and Body, Space, Earth, and Future .
Our Engage stage will also be bigger and better than ever. Here you can find something familiar new scientist In addition to a live version of the Dead Planets Society podcast hosted by Leah Crane and Chelsea White, culture editor Alison Flood hosts a sci-fi showdown where she answers the important question: What is the best sci-fi novel of all time? A variety of faces will appear.
I am excited to be hosting the stage opening doors for the next generation of scientists during Monday’s special school day. The exclusive speaker line-up includes live demonstrations from Susie Inbar and Dallas Campbell, as well as an explosive show from Stephen Gates.
