Recently, the BBC acquired the broadcast rights to 1,085 episodes of the hit anime, which is also based on Eiichiro Oda’s smash hit manga. The episodes will premiere on September 1 (aka today), scheduled to run until the end of 2024. A big caveat, however, is that it’s only available in an English dubbed version (sorry, subtitled fans). The BBC says this is the only place UK audiences can legally watch the show, but there don’t appear to be any plans to broadcast it on official TV, like Adult Swim in the US. There are also still questions about the anime’s numerous films over the years.
At the time of writing, there are approximately 1,120 episodes. one piece, This means that essentially the entire anime will be available on BBC iPlayer. More specifically, UK viewers will be able to watch everything from the first “East Blue” arc to the “Wano Country” arc, which ends in late 2023. According to Fiona Campbell, BBC Three’s controller for young audiences, the anime “[is] This is a really exciting move.
