Pinterest predicts summer trends, some inspired by ‘Bridgerton’

What are fashion-loving girls in the mood for this summer? According to the most searched keywords on Pinterest, the summer fashion trends are Y2K nostalgia and tea parties.

In its Summer 2024 trends report released this week, Pinterest revealed the most searched keywords on the platform, and while there were some outliers, such as a 55% to 50% increase in searches for “alt baddie,” most queries fell into three distinct groups.

Y3K

There’s no doubt that many Pinners are interested in recreating the past (see the ’90s and 2000s-inspired searches below), but a significant portion of them are dreaming of the future, too. Searches for “Y3K outfits” (futuristic ensembles fit for the year 3000) have seen a massive 60-30% increase. Searches for “retro-future fashion” have also increased by 170%, proving that people are caught between the past and the present.

Y2K and 90s looks

When Pinterest users need inspiration, they’re looking to the turn of the century, with searches for “90s makeup looks” (up 270 percent), “90s lips” (up 760 percent) and “90s glam” (up 280 percent) all increasing. Additionally, searches for “90s nail art” (up 250 percent) and “90s French nails” (up 515 percent) are on the rise as people gear up for sandals and short sleeves season.

Searches for “2000s makeup” also increased by 580 percent, while searches for “Y2K duck claws” increased by 120 percent.

Hairstyles from the ’90s are also popular, with searches for “90s blonde” (up 93 percent), “90s layered bob” (up 985 percent) and “baby braids” styles (up 1,210 percent). Also from the 2000s, searches for “Chunky Highlights” like Lindsay Lohan (up 5,400 percent) and “Dark Highlights on Dark Hair” (up 2,840 percent) are on the rise. Dinner and tea party

As people prepare to enjoy the warm weather with summer parties, searches for “dinner party” are up a whopping 6,000 percent. Specific themes include “fairy dinner parties” (up 150 percent) and “vintage dinnerware” (up 212 percent).

Following the debut of the show’s third season, Bridgerton The effect seems to be reaching its peak, as people are searching for things like “tea party” (up 430%), “high tea food ideas” (up 177%), “afternoon tea party ideas” (up 165%), “floral tea party” (up 160%) and “vintage tea sets” (up 168%). In case you couldn’t tell, tea is all the rage this summer.
