Proton Drive: Like Google Docs, but with end-to-end encryption

Those looking to get out of the Google ecosystem received some good news from Proton on Wednesday.

Specifically, privacy-focused software company Proton Drive is adding something new to its product line in the form of a shared text editor called Proton Docs. very It’s similar to Google Docs, with powerful editing tools that allow multiple people to work on a document together in real time, except that Proton says the editor is end-to-end encrypted for everything, including cursor movements.

Proton claims that this is the first “major document editor” with E2E encryption turned on by default. The announcement blog post also contains bolded text warning that data you store in places like Google Drive “may be used to train AI in the future.” While Google doesn’t currently use documents to train AI models (per The Verge), Proton says it does.
