Similarly, there’s a smart mode, which acts like a thermostat when the fridge’s temperature is high, and a party mode, which prioritizes keeping drinks cold over keeping the noise down. After a few minutes, I heard the compressor get a little louder, and when I opened it a few minutes later, it was noticeably colder. (Rocco says the temperature range is 37 to 64 degrees Fahrenheit.)
But if you want to keep your drinks cold when you open it frequently for parties, you can just turn it down to your preferred temperature. I don’t really see the need for all these modes. I used a wireless Bluetooth thermometer to test the temperature change inside the fridge in each mode to make sure it works properly. I gave each mode a 10-minute change and tested each shelf at both ends of the fridge. I was happy to see that all these were only a few degrees off the fridge readings.
Another key feature of the app is its vision system. When you set up the app for the first time, sensors in your fridge scan everything stored in the fridge. All your drinks are then displayed in the app, organized by drawer. I keep some lesser known drinks in it, like OoMee’s algae drink and Yaté’s yerba mate, and I was impressed that it recognized most of them. However, there were some that it didn’t recognize, like Dolin vermouth, one of the most popular vermouth brands.
It also gives you nutrition facts for each drink, but many of them are incomplete. In theory, you could go to the grocery store and just look at the app to see which drinks you’re running low on. I realized I don’t do this very often, but one time I was wondering if I was running low on LaCroix, and I checked the app to see that I was, indeed. So this was helpful.
But the system isn’t perfect — right now it says I have one LaCroix left, but I haven’t had any in a few weeks — it would be great if I could buy what I’m missing directly from the app.
The dual temperature system also means you can set half the fridge to one temperature and the other half to another, which can be adjusted manually or via the app. This is important for storing carbonated water and wine at different temperatures, but this is a feature that many wine fridges have, so it’s not unique to the Rocco Fridge.
Timeless design
Rocco has a midcentury vibe, but also feels modern. I love the grooved glass door, which is so pretty at night with the lights peeking through the door. It’s always a talking point when people come over to my apartment. I can turn the lights on and off and adjust the brightness through the app.
The top of the fridge is flat and sturdy, so it doubles as a bar cart, and the raised sides make it easier to keep bottles from falling off. I have a bar cart full of bottles, so it’s great to have this right next to it to store any overflowing bottles.
