Snapchat is adding several new personalization options for Snapchat+ subscribers, including custom Sims-style homes on the Snap Map, new ways to interact with digital pets, and expiring Snaps.
First, Snap gives subscribers the option to create their own custom digital homes that will appear on the Snap Map.
As you can see from these screenshots, Snapchat+ users will now be able to build a version of their home that will be visible to friends on a map when location sharing is enabled.
According to Snap:
“Whether you want a realistic look or a whimsical candy castle, there are nearly endless ways to customize a crib.”
So now you can create your own dream home on the map to represent a real location, which can be a fun customization for connections.
Snap is also expanding on Bitmoji pets, so your furry friend will now appear next to your Bitmoji as you type conversations with friends.
Snapchat added AI-generated pets for Snapchat+ subscribers in January and is now looking to make them active in wider areas of the app.
Snap is also rolling out “lightning quick Snaps,” which will allow users to create Stories with new expiration options of 0.10 seconds, 0.25 seconds, and 0.50 seconds.
These are fun additions that will likely appeal to Snap’s core users, which is a key reason why Snapchat has made its subscription service so successful: Snap’s knowledge and understanding of its users allows it to build options that are more in line with the ethos of the platform and will resonate with power users (i.e. those most likely to pay).
That’s why Snapchat+ now has 9 million paid subscribers, far more than X Premium. Rather than charging for existing features or turning the blue checkmark into a sign of support for Elon Musk, Snapchat is linking to what its user community is most interested in.
Other platforms looking to drive subscriptions should take note.
Outside of Snapchat+, Snap is new The company added a “Live Mirror” to the Bitmoji Builder, making it easier to create a more accurate depiction of your face, and also released a new “five-year-old self.” lens.
Snap continues to build compelling tools that meet the needs of its audience, strengthening its value to its user base.
