Snapchat, in partnership with Lincoln Center, continues to develop new ways to combine traditional art with AR using Snap’s AR technology. It brings the center’s latest exhibition to life.
Called “Ghost Variations,” the new exhibition encourages visitors to download Snap to experience AR activations around the exhibit’s artworks.
Created by AR Developer Created by Alexis Zerafa and digital artist and sculptor Sophie Kahn, the project “visualizes mental health and sound through Snapchat’s augmented reality lens” and will be available in the app until August 10.
According to Snap:
“The subject of Ghost Variations is the 19th century composer Robert Schumann, who relied on the music of JS Bach as his mental state deteriorated during the last years of his life spent in a psychiatric hospital. Busts and heads of Schumann, Bach, and various contemporary models are represented in larger-than-life augmented reality sculptures on Snapchat. Kahn performed Schumann’s music underwater, recorded the waveforms, and mapped them onto the giant head, creating a visual representation of how music is heard.
It’s another way that Snap is blending traditional art experiences with modern technology, and the platform has already undertaken some major efforts to bring art to life.
Snap used to be Launching a digital art project Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) And that San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts (FAMSF), Also, Famous contemporary artists Jeffrey Koons, Damien Hirst, Cowes There will be a variety of AR art activations, such as:
This could be a good way for Snap to introduce art to modern audiences by providing a creative connection, and it could also help ensure that classical art remains relevant and accessible to younger audiences.
Ghost Variations is the next project along this line, which will also help to promote the possibilities of AR art projects and develop AR creation skills.
It’s an interesting endeavor that could become even more valuable in the future as AR wearables become more widely available.
