A robot has just performed microsurgery on a corn kernel that could change the way precision surgery is done.
Sony has unveiled a prototype microsurgical assistance robot that can support surgeons operating on very small tissues, nerves, and veins.
This compact product includes a small automatic instrument exchange feature designed to reduce the number of interruptions and delays during surgery. A lightweight, highly sensitive control device that reflects the delicate movements of human fingertips further improves precise control of robots.
The prototype is also equipped with a 1.3-inch 4K OLED microdisplay that allows the operator to view high-resolution images of the area of interest and closely monitor the movement of surgical instruments.
Although this prototype, tested by Japan’s Aichi Medical University, is still in the development stage and cannot be sold or provided yet, Sony hopes to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of microsurgery in the future, and to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of microsurgery currently facing medical practice.
