Swatch Launches Three New Earth-Based Moon Swatches (I Want Two of Them)

Less than three months after the release of the Snoopy Moon Swatch, Swatch this morning unveiled not one, but three new models, all this time themed around our home planet Earth.

According to Swatch, the new watch is inspired by the fact that “throughout history, people have wondered what the world looks like from above.”

The Mission on Earth Lava has a vibrant red color from the volcanic lava, and the chronograph seconds hand is orange, reminiscent of the Omega 1968 Speedmaster Moonwatch “Ultraman” model.

Mission on Earth Polar Lights is a vibrant neon turquoise color that represents the Aurora Borealis, a natural phenomenon in which charged particles from the Sun interact with molecules in Earth’s upper atmosphere to create a distinctive light show. The dark blue dial features tiny silvery flecks inspired by aventurine glass dials, a current trend in watchmaking. The distribution of these flecks varies from model to model.

Mission on Earth Desert is the least noticeable of the three, as its beige tones evoke the ocean of sand on the Earth’s surface, and a key point for Swatch is that all three natural phenomena are clearly visible from space.

The news comes on the heels of TAG Heuer unveiling its revamped F1 watch, which some consider to be an answer to the Moon Swatch, despite its $1,350 price tag, which is significantly higher than the Swatch offering. Introduced in 1986, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 was seen at the time as the brand’s answer to the cheaper original Swatch that had revolutionized the market three years earlier, but with much higher specs.

The reimagined TAG Heuer Formula 1 | Kith is an exclusive collaboration with Kith, marking the first time TAG Heuer has co-branded a watch face. The face features Kith’s “Just Us” slogan, underscoring the watch company’s eagerness to engage with Gen Z consumers.
