Terminator It has been almost frozen since 2019, TTerminator Zero. The upcoming anime series aims to expand the scope of the sci-fi thriller series by moving the setting to Japan and focusing on new characters caught up in the war between humanity and Skynet. But war is hell, and as an adult animated series, there will also be a ton of violence.
At Anime NYC, Netflix unveiled a new red band trailer. bundle The spectacle of humans being brutally mutilated and killed. These new killer robots (and Timothy Olyphant’s Terminator hero) are the creation of a Japanese AI named Kokoro (Rosario Dawson), who acts as Japan’s version of Skynet and is hunting down its creator, Malcolm Lee (Andre Holland), and his family. It’s up to Eiko (Sonoya Mizuno), a time-traveling resistance soldier, to protect the Lee family and stop Kokoro before she devastates Japan as Skynet has done in the West.
Ahead of the trailer’s release, showrunner Mattson Tomlin told Polygon that they wanted to “play to the strengths” of their collaboration with Japanese studio Production IG.Monster No. 8 Ghost in the Shell(His previous works focused on America and Mexico, with little mention of countries outside of Russia. With that in mind, shifting the focus away from the Connor family to Japan wasn’t difficult at all, and instead gave him incredible freedom. “The movie was… about this family and this story,” he said. “But I’m doing an animated show, which is something that hasn’t been done before with this series. […] What is happening in other parts of the world?
While writing zeroMattson focused on three key points: Terminator It has three pillars: killer robots, the fear of nuclear war, and a family-centered story. If the first two were about a man and a woman making a baby and a mother’s love for her son, respectively, this series is about a broken family coming together again. Terminator Without these three tenets, we would never have had an enduring franchise that is looking to bounce back and take on new challenges.
Terminator Zero It will premiere on Netflix on August 29th.
