The Sleep Number c1 is a more affordable smart mattress

Key Takeaways

  • Sleep Number has introduced the c1 Smart Bed, which offers customizable features at an affordable price of $599 for a twin size.
  • Though it doesn’t offer advanced features like heating or cooling, the c1 does come with a ceramic gel layer for cooling and Sleep Number tracking.
  • The c1 is available in a range of sizes, from $599 for a twin to $1,499 for a queen, targeting cost-conscious consumers.

On Monday, Sleep Number Corporation unveiled its latest smart bed, the c1 Smart Bed, which is surprisingly affordable. Smart beds are typically ones that allow you to adjust the position of either side of the bed, as well as choose the temperature and firmness of each end. This allows different sleepers to get a good night’s rest, which is something everyone is looking for when upgrading their bed. Smart beds allow for customization that regular mattresses just don’t.

The big difference with the c1 smart bed is the price. Some smart mattresses and smart mattress covers can cost more than $3,000 to $4,000. Sleep Number’s c4 smart bed is $2,400 for a queen size. The c1 smart bed starts at $599 for a twin size, a big discount compared to the $899 for the c2, the only twin-size smart bed Sleep Number offers.

A realistic day/night cycle, environmental feedback, and other features help you go to bed on time and wake up refreshed.

While the c1 doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that some premium smart beds have, like heat and cold sensors and automatic temperature control, it does offer a lot for a low price — and it’s available in multiple sizes for budget-conscious consumers.

Sleep Number developed the c1 Smart Bed to enter the market at a lower price point to appeal to people who want to buy a new mattress but can’t afford luxury products. “We’re excited to introduce the c1 Smart Bed and offer three smart beds under $2,000 to meet the needs of today’s value-conscious and discerning consumers,” Sleep Number Chairman, President and CEO Shelley Eibach said in a company press release. The $599 twin bed option comes with a $699 twin XL, $799 full, $999 queen and $1,499 king or California king. The c1 versions of flextop king or California king or split king or California king sell for $1,899 each, but they also require the purchase of an adjustable base, bringing the price up to over $2,000.

The c1 features a ceramic gel layer in the mattress that wicks away heat, making the sleeper feel cooler. It also allows multiple sleepers to choose their preferred firmness, known eponymously as Sleep Number. It also allows for easy adjustments throughout the night. The c1 also helps in tracking your sleep with the help of the Sleep Number app. The bed uses AI to track your sleep and can provide useful sleep data to improve your sleep quality. The app helps in monitoring various elements of your sleep trends and suggests smart bed adjustments.

The c1 is currently available to purchase on the Sleep Number website and at Sleep Number retailers.
