House of the Dragon Season 2’s new opening will tell the story of House Targaryen
The episode begins with Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma Darcy) searching for the bodies of her son Lutharis (Elliot Griolto) and his dragon Arax, who were killed by Vhagar ridden by Prince Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) in the final episode of Season 1. Rhaenyra comes ashore on a small beach near Storm’s End, kicks around some local scavengers, then kneels beside the bodies and weeps.
Soon, Rhaenyra’s dragon, Syrax, arrives and joins her. The dragon lets out a plaintive rumbling sound, then howls at the sky in obvious pain. At first, the dragon thinks it’s a cry of sympathy – it’s feeling the same pain as its rider – but in reality, it’s much worse than that.
