Since 2017, Marvel has made Venom one of their top-tier characters, occasionally featuring him as the centerpiece of comic book events. Currently, Eddie Brock and his son Dylan are facing off in “Venom War,” but once that’s over, a new era for the character will begin. The twist? It won’t be one of Brock’s main characters.
A few days ago, Polygon officially announced Al Ewing and Carlos Gomez’s upcoming series. All-New VenomWhile Eddie appears to be missing, Dylan investigates the symbiote’s new partner. This mystery story sees teenager Brock take on the role of detective, and four possible suspects have already been narrowed down: New York City Mayor Luke Cage, Daily Bugle regular Robbie Robertson, villain Madame Masque, and Hulk’s longtime ally Rick Jones. Ewing said they all have “good chances” of being the new host, with Masque having “big plans” after the “Gang War” event and Robbie trying to solve the problem like Superman, and he hopes readers won’t jump to the conclusion that they are suspects right away.
Regardless of who is in the goo, Brand new After the last few series (including those by Ewing and co-writer Ram V) were too cosmic, Venom will once again be returning to the street level. “It’s more of a Spider-Man level story,” he explained, and he teased that the new lethal protector will fight like a street hero, focusing on the character and “ground-level superhero action.” “This Venom doesn’t fight like we’ve seen him before. [him] in front. […] We can do all kinds of exciting new tricks and fun new things right from issue one.”
For longtime readers of Ewing’s work, he All-New Venom Venom is akin to old-school superhero comics, and a way for him to stretch his creative muscles. “There needs to be a certain amount of insanity and wildness and fun in Venom,” he says. “And I All-New Venom I plan to embrace that even more.”
All-New Venom It will start in December.
