What’s new on Disney+ and Hulu in August 2024 (and what’s leaving)?

Gone are the days when August meant yet another month of shows returning while networks waited until September to announce new shows and premieres. Instead, the new month heralds even more content coming (and some titles leaving) to your favorite streaming services. Disney+ and Hulu are welcoming a slew of titles, including recent theatrical releases, older movies, long-running reality shows, and highly-anticipated original stories. Of course, the lists may not be as long or compelling as other months of the year, but there’s plenty worth checking out and investing in throughout August.

What’s new (and dropping) on ​​Netflix in August 2024?

In August, Netflix will release the highly anticipated final season of The Umbrella Academy and a new Spongebob Squarepants series.

There’s been a lot of murders in the building.

The wildly popular and ever-so-clever dark comedy Only Murders in the Buildings returns for an exciting fourth season later this month. Following its Emmy nominations, the show sees a trio of amateur detectives (Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selene Gomez) head to Hollywood to investigate the murder of Sazh (Jane Lynch). This season is chock-full of celebrities and guest actors, and plenty of plot twists to look forward to. With high expectations this season comes great pressure to continue balancing the unique blend of charm, absurdity, and pathos that makes the show so compelling.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

Earlier this month we’ll be seeing the latest installment in the Planet of the Apes series. With Kingdom, the filmmakers attempt to restart the new trilogy, jumping way ahead in time and introducing audiences to an all-new cast of characters, both humans and apes. Expect action-packed, subtle parallels to modern society, and animals that look so real they may be unsettling to some viewers. I’m binge-watching!

Are you serious!?

BTS members Jimin and Jungkook go on adventures and have fun together in this adorable and charming docuseries. The two young guys go on what looks to be some really wholesome and definitely fun trips before they serve their mandatory military service. I’m not sure how serious this weekly series will get, but that’s ok with me. From the trailer, it looks like it’ll be a fun romp with plenty of male bonding and committed friendship, and I think it’s definitely worth seeing more of on TV.
