She responds in a Southern accent, enthusiastically and ridiculously: “Yeah, I gotta ‘TUAH that hawk’ and spit on that thing! You know?” she says, mimicking spitting on the thing in the form of a microphone tilted towards her.
The video, along with others capturing the moment, reacting to it, and sharing it with everyone, went viral on TikTok, racking up millions of views. It was later revealed that the Hawk Tua Girl’s name was Haley Welch. As is often the case on the internet, people started researching and circulating various rumors.

Most importantly, Welch was a teacher who was fired after the video went viral, which started as a parody account scamming people online.
While Welch seemed a bit hesitant at first to try to cash in on the viral moment, she’s now started selling merch, which is a pretty surefire way to make money. She’s partnered with local Tennessee business Fathead Threads to capitalize on Hawk Tua’s viral moment by selling merchandise. Among the merchandise are a “Hawk Tua 2024” trucker hat, graphic tees, and New Jersey Boardwalk-inspired shirts with vulgar Hawk Tua jokes.
Some reports have suggested Welch may soon be looking at representation, with Page Six reporting that industry rumors have her in talks with a major talent agency.
Honestly, it’s a good thing for Welch: She was having fun in the interview and probably never expected to become the subject of something that some people would find embarrassing, but now she can laugh all the way to the bank.
