I’m a longtime Android user, and I’ve never really gotten around to any version of Gmail for a few reasons. First, it just didn’t feel like the web app. I know Google has removed some useless features and made it more streamlined, but it just never felt like a polished product. Second, adding email accounts to the Gmail app became a pain, and I couldn’t create filters to sort my emails within the app.

Strangely, it wasn’t until I bought a Surface Duo (and a Surface Duo 2) and started using Outlook that I actually started using email again and felt a bit more productive. I moved away from the clutter of Gmail and used email previews and the focus mode, which filters out the tons of junk and general spam that floods my inbox.

Less noise and chaos has resulted in a calmer me.

Manage your business

Focus mode is a killer feature in Outlook that is extremely useful for soft filtering emails. It’s like a spam folder, but for emails you don’t want to see right away.[その他]A quick tap on (I wish there was a better name for it) will show you newsletters you subscribe to, etc. Awesome.

This feature definitely cuts down on distractions, which is no small feat since my phone is connected to the internet, which is my biggest source of distraction.

Whenever a newsletter or promotional email arrives, I jump right in like Seabiscuit and my productivity immediately drops.

Outlook for Android really helps you avoid concentration issues when working on a phone or tablet, and it’s great at that (this part seems to be my point).

Your email signature should match your desktop client. Personally, I don’t want people to know that I’m replying to emails from my phone or desktop. Think of it as a seamless experience when communicating with others.

In Outlook, you can do that: just add HTML from something like an email signature generator (Hubspot has a great free one), paste it into your desktop client, save the same HTML in Google Keep, and then copy the HTML from Google Keep to Outlook on your phone.

Both signatures are now the same, making it very easy to execute.

Calendar and News

Calendar function is Google Mail or Gmail Same goes for calendars from other providers. Very handy.

The Channels feature allows you to create your own curated news feeds for specific outlets or topics. I love this feature because it helps me filter out the news I don’t want to see. All this can be done within the Outlook app.

Outlook ticks all the boxes for me: easy to find, easy to use, and easy to filter through email noise with the convenience of a curated newsfeed.
