X is some New uses for Grok AI chatbotsPaid X Premium subscribers will get access to profile analytics, as well as the ability to highlight any term or phrase in the app and ask Grok a question.
X first previewed its Profile Analytics option earlier this month, which adds a new “More about this account” option to the profile screen.
It’s only available on desktop for now, and again, only to X Premium subscribers (like Grok as a whole).
But for those who have it, tapping the button will reveal an AI-generated summary of your profile, which includes: A general description, an overview of how long your profile has been active, how many followers you have, what you post regularly, etc.
Ok, this isn’t written by Grok and I suspect Elon’s team was involved in creating his own profile summaries, but this process should help us get a better understanding of who manages each account and what they’re posting, in a quick overview.
Why is it useful?
Well, it might help you decide whether to follow a profile, and the additional context can also help spot bots and rage-bait accounts.
For example, if you receive an aggressive response to one of your posts, visiting their profile and tapping on the Grok summary may reveal that the account has only been active for a few weeks, so it may not be worth replying to. It may also reveal political leanings or other potential biases that may help explain the other person’s reaction through added context.
There are some possibilities where this could help a little, but we will have to wait for groundbreaking use cases of AI in social apps.
Meta’s chatbot is mostly just a gimmick, with a few gimmicks thrown in. TikTok’s bot experiments are similar, but it’s no surprise that people would want to talk to “my AI” on Snapchat. Meta’s Messenger AI bot profile is similar, responding in a tone that mimics celebrities.
Social media is just that, social, and I’m not sure how a dedicated bot profile would add value to that experience. The ability for a bot to create something on your behalf is interesting, but again, I’m not convinced this will be a huge value add for most social networks.
Grok’s profile summaries all look pretty much the same, and while it can be useful to see what Grok has to say about a particular profile, it’s mostly just there for novelty value that seems to wear off quickly.
However, there may be some values that I’m missing because I haven’t used them yet.
In addition to this, X Premium subscribers canHighlight any text in the stream and ask Grok about it Get an AI-based explanation of that term or sentence.
So, in summary, if you’re one of the roughly 1 million people who pay a fee to use X, you’ll now have some new ways to ask questions of X’s AI that’s built on your posts and data.
Grok is available to all X Premium and Premium+ subscribers (it is not available on the “Basic” package).
