August’s must-see video game releases
The big names of 2024 are coming, so make sure you play your best game this August and don’t fall behind early.
1 Wreckfest 2
Beautiful Massacre
The biggest announcement of the show was the reveal of the next Wreckfest game. Wreckfest 2 will evolve the original’s highly dynamic destruction using a new version of the ROMU engine. This will allow for more specific and detailed damage as well as a very robust car customizer. This will allow players to design and detail every inch of their cars before they are inevitably destroyed or dented. Mod support has been promised along with developer updates to keep the community strong with new content. A range of multiplayer modes will again be offered in addition to a new career mode for solo play. There is no release date or platform for Wreckfest 2 yet, other than PC.

2 Epic Mickey Rebrush
Repainting
We’ve known for months that a remake of Epic Mickey was coming, but this trailer really shows just how much work has gone into this re-release. As a port of the Wii game, Rebrushed looks stunning in the new 4K resolution, but it’s the boost to 60 frames per second that really brings the game to life. While the game stays mostly faithful to the original, there are some new elements added to the package: a new photo mode, support for gyroscopic aiming on Switch and PS5, and 150 new collectibles being added to the game in the form of concept art. Pre-orders are open now, with some exclusive skins available.

I sincerely hope these games get the sequels they deserve.
There are some games that we desperately need sequels for, but for one reason or another, will probably never get a sequel. Here are the most disappointing of them all.
3 Gothic 1
An even older remake
The 2001 classic RPG is a remake project from THQ Nordic. This new trailer has been focused on the story but generously shows off the improved graphics. Running on Unreal 5, Gothic is very impressive visually. We only saw a little bit of the combat, so that’s still to be determined. Like Epic Mickey, Gothic has some great additions: new stories are added, existing ones are expanded, and NPC and character progression are reworked. The game has not yet had a release date announced, but it probably won’t be long before more details are announced.

Some classic games are fading away on older consoles, and these are the games that most need a remake.
Four Titan Quest 2
Let’s play the game
Titan Quest 2 was announced at last year’s THQ Nordic showcase and has since disappeared completely. Now, a year later, it’s back with a fresh gameplay trailer to reignite the excitement. The sequel doesn’t seem to do anything drastically different from its predecessor, other than fighting giant beasts and a bit of looting. What does seem to be updated is a new skill system that lets you combine skills into new skills that can then be further upgraded. Again, the game has no announced release date.

Five Goldman’s eternal life
Hidden gem
Of all the announcements and trailers for the show, this 2D platform game looks like it will be the hidden gem of the whole show. The art immediately grabs your attention with great animation and detail that strongly expresses the Cuphead atmosphere in the best way possible. Every frame is hand-drawn and looks like an animated movie you can actually play. The story is inspired by Jewish, Greek and Mesopotamian folklore, giving it a unique flavor that is rarely seen in games. Gameplay-wise, you play as an old man who uses a cane to move across platforms and attack enemies and bosses. It looks like a very difficult platform game. We don’t know when The Eternal Life of Goldman will be available, but it is expected to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC.
