AMC’s Bold Adaptation Interview with the Vampire Season 2 has brought plenty of dramatic changes and thrilling new aspects to Anne Rice’s 1976 novel, but eagle-eyed fans watching season 2 have noticed that showrunner Lorin Jones’ version has interwoven bits and pieces from other books in the late gothic horror author’s 13-book Vampire Chronicles series, including revelations from the sequel to the first novel. Vampire Lestatand the sixth book, Armand the Vampire. In episode 10 (the third of season 2), Jones and his team hinted at a shocking new possibility that could lead to one of the series’ strangest adventures. This allusion is apparent as “No Pain” begins with cantankerous interviewer Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) on his lunch break at a sushi restaurant where the fish is so fresh it’s still panting (“I like it without squirming. I should have said that,” Daniel jokes, prompting the chef to silently chop off the head of the entrée.) Then an inquisitive new character interrupts the conversation.
“The dangers of omakase,” declares a grinning, bespectacled man (Justin Kirk) in a business suit sitting a few tables away at the sushi bar. “We cede power to the chef. We bow to his whims. We put the fish market in his eyes. It’s a whole set of risks.” But this isn’t just chatter. This is a new problem for Daniel. And his name is Raglan James.

In a TV show Interview with the Vampire: Part II As stated in Season 2’s opening title card, Raglan James is a mysterious secret agent who knows much more about vampires than Daniel does, particularly Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Armand (Asad Zaman). In “No Pain,” he reveals to Molloy not only that he knows exactly who the journalist/author is, but also why he’s a vampire. Really In Dubai.
This savvy stranger is not Mossad, but he is affiliated with some intelligence agency. “I wish he was. I wish he had more funding,” Raglan quipped. “No. I work for another surveillance company, whose name never came up in my conversations with them… His name is Raglan James.”
This name should pique the ears of any Anne Rice reader. Raglan The Body Snatcher’s TaleTo be more precise, Raglan James is the name of a con man with supernatural powers who can switch bodies with other people. Specifically, he wants to swap bodies with the vampire Lestat.

Raglan James appears and offers Lestat the possibility of becoming human again. If the two swap bodies — if only for a day! — the world-weary vampire could be reconnected with the wonders of humanity. Lestat agrees, but surprisingly, James has no intention of returning the supernatural vampire’s body to its owner.
Most of Rice’s novel follows the frail human Lestat as he desperately tries to recover the body of the vampire Raglan, and to do so he enlists the help of his Talamasca friends.

When Daniel opens it, a flood of files spills out, making him hit the escape key in surprise, catching Louis’ attention. At the very least, Louis notices that Daniel is unusually distracted. What’s in this folder will undoubtedly affect Daniel’s progress in the interview. But what is Raglan James up to?

To Jones’ (who is also an RJ!) credit, AMC’s Interview with the Vampire The series made such significant changes to the original that even Anne Rice fans are not sure what will happen next. Season 1 dramatically altered the show’s titular vampire, transforming Louis from a melancholic white slave owner in the 1790s to a sophisticated black Creole brothel owner in the 1910s. The series also grew the child vampire Claudia from 5 to 14 years old, allowing for better production potential and more mature storylines. These time and character changes also put many other new pieces into place, including the shocking revelation at the end of season 1 that loyal human servant Rashid was a vampire. actually Armand the Vampire in Disguise!

Or maybe Raglan James isn’t who he seems. In episode 10, Interview with the Vampire It already weaves in plot points from other books about Lestat and Armand. So why? Body Snatcher?
Is James actually a human form borrowed by Lestat? Has Lestat infiltrated the Talamasca, promising to help but working for his own ends? Will this unassuming human form allow him to sneak around unnoticed by Louis and Armand? Is he plotting some great revenge… or something more sinister?
On the one hand, fans may be outraged that Australian actor Sam Reid will be taking on the role of Lestat – the Aussie actor is so wild in the role – but on the other hand, Reid’s classic Lestat is already popping up throughout the flashbacks, not as a body, but as a bittersweet hallucination for Lewis, teasing and seducing desire and regret in equal measure. So is more better?
Who better to play a vampire in a con man’s body than Justin Kirk? Kirk is a character actor who loves playing complex villains, so it’s kind of dark that his character, Raglan James, is a very cleverly disguised Lestat. In the episode, Daniel comments that Armand “really got to meet the guy” as he recounts his first meeting with Lestat. Has he met Lestat already? Is this a game Rollin Jones is playing in Season 2?
