At this point, my husband’s excitement had completely worn off. He “left it to me.” Of course, this is my job, but I don’t expect this from someone who just a few weeks ago was hailing all these boxes as miracles.
Side note: To factory reset your Sonos speakers, unplug the power cord, hold down the Bluetooth button while plugging the power cord back in, and hold down the Bluetooth button until the light on the front flashes orange and white. I did this several times on all of my speakers, and even while on the phone with Sonos tech support.
“I’m not happy,” I said, as the Sonos subwoofer rested on my lap, my left hand pressing the Bluetooth button on the front of the subwoofer while my right hand fumbled for the plug on the bottom. “I don’t think a factory reset is this hard to do.”
“Ideally, customers wouldn’t have to do this very often,” he said gently.
After a few weeks of trial and error, I finally hit a breaking point when I got everything to work properly. There was one more thing to test: when you add Sonos Ace headphones to the app, you can turn on TV audio swap, meaning you can listen to TV audio on your Sonos Ace headphones without disturbing anyone else in the room.
I powered on my Ace (and did a factory reset of course, because the app couldn’t find the headphones on the first two tries), then clicked on the app’s settings, then on Ace headphones. I couldn’t find an option to swap audio. After double-checking the steps, I realized that TV Audio Swap only works with the Sonos for iOS app.
After weeks of tinkering, I still couldn’t bear the prospect of resetting everything to factory settings. Also I’m going through the same hassle again with my iPhone. Sorry to anyone wanting to ask about audio exchange, but I wrote this instead.
Give me a second
The Sonos speakers work so well that when I finally got everything set up and started playing Sabrina Carpenter in the living room, my 7-year-old son immediately ran in and started dancing. For someone who’s used to listening to cheesy TV speakers or propping a tiny Bluetooth speaker up against the sink while doing the dishes, the room-filling sound of a complete home theater system is mind-blowing.
Mad Max: Fury Road is one of my favorite movies. I saw it three times in the theater, but testing a home theater sound system is a convenient excuse for repeated viewings. I couldn’t believe how much of an experience the Sonos system was able to recreate with Dolby Atmos.
